What to Do with Those Gideon Bibles in Your Hotel Room

Does it bug you that many hotels feel the need to proselytize their paying guests by sticking their version of the Christian bible or Book of Mormon in the room?

The Bible of choice is the Gideon Bible.  If you don't know who Gideon was, he was a very bad man.  Read the image to the right, which is a sticker you can get through the Freedom from Religion Foundation to stick in those pesky evangelical Christian bibles.  Gideon's bloody legacy is preserved in the book of Judges.

Non-Gideon Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, free thinkers, atheists, agnostics, etc., who don't ascent to the Gideon Bible's version of the universe have many options.

The bibles are there for the taking, so I say take them and throw them in the trash. That will be a few dollars spent on replacing the violent book rather than on political lobbying and ballot initiatives that take away people's civil rights and erode at the separation of church and state.

So, when your traveling this holiday weekend, be sure to chuck those bibles.

I can't bring myself to deface, steal or destroy the property of another person, even if I find that property abhorrent. On the other hand, I have no qualms about sticking things like "nontracts" and the "Gideon Exposed" cards in hotel room Bibles. No harm done and somebody might actually learn something. (Yes, this might be considered "proselytizing", but since the Bible Bangers insist on putting the Bibles in the hotel rooms I figure what's good for them is good for me.)
