Vatican and Opus Dei Take off the Gloves, Attack the New York Times for Tying Pope to Sex Abuse Scandals

There will be no turning of the other cheek for Pope Benedict and the Vatican.  No mea culpas.  No public confession or penance.  There is only denial, the same old story that Ratzinger didn't know, and the continuus blaming of local bishops and the evil media.

Cardinal William J. Levada, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, just issued the New York Times some fighting words in a statement entitled, "The New York Times and Pope Benedict XVI:
how it looks to an American in the Vatican."  Levada attacks specific journalists and sticks to the Vatican party line: the pope is perfect, has done tons of stuff to curb sexual abuse, and didn't have anything to do with the sexual abuse cases to which he's been connected.  He claims that the U.S. bishops have been successful dealing with sexual abuse since the adaptation of the 2002 Dallas Charter.  (To see how poorly Levada fared handling the sexual abuse crisis in his former diocese, San Francisco, check out Bishop Accountability.)

Here's how it looks to an American in the trenches back here in the States.  The cover-up I witnessed took place in 2004, long after the beloved Dallas Charter.  Levada is a hypocrite.  During a week when the college of bishops celebrates the death of their innocent savior on a cross, not a single one of them is willing to sacrifice his own pride in the face of an ever-expanding mountain of evidence that the Vatican and Pope Ben's hands are dirty in certain cases of sexual abuse and cover up.

The New York Times responded to Levada's statement:
The Times said its reports were "based on meticulous reporting and documents.  Some of the particulars were confirmed by the Church, and so far no one has cast doubt on the facts we reported," the newspaper said in a statement issued late on Wednesday. "The allegations of abuse within the Catholic Church are a serious subject, as the Vatican has acknowledged on many occasions. Any role the current pope may have played in responding to those allegations over the years is a significant aspect of this story."
As for Opus Dei, Reuters reports:
Conservative Catholic university students from the Opus Dei group rushed to the pope's defense, attacking journalists who have written about the sexual abuse of children by priests as "sowers of mistrust."
Those Opus Dei folks are just gluttons for punishment, and they know what's best for children.  Watch the video below to see what violent behavior they sow in the minds of their youth.  But remember, if mutilating one's body is done in their god's name, it's not violence.  It's holy.

Is Pope Benedict XVI Going to Court in Kentucky?

Welcome to the (Lay) People's Court, where a Catholic bishop has yet to stand criminal trial for covering up sexual abuse in the scandal that's been rocking the Catholic Church for decades.  That may change.

William McMurry, a Kentucky lawyer, has filed a court motion seeking sworn testimony from Pope Ben in order to find out what the Vatican knew about the decades old cover-up of priest-pedophiles.

     The AFP reports:
The motion, a copy of which was sent to AFP, says Benedict was aware of clergy sex abuse in the United States and that he "discouraged prosecution of accused clergy and encouraged secrecy to protect the reputation of the Church" in the 24 years that he led the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith.  "That organization was responsible for screening these cases dealing with complaints by US bishops about their various abusive priests in various dioceses," McMurry told AFP.  The motion says documents released last week by the New York Times "unequivocally link Pope Benedict XVI, formerly Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, to child sexual abuse cases in the United States.
Since the Times story broke, several other clergy sex abuse victims and their lawyers have come forward and claimed that, when he was head of the CDF, the pope was informed about predator priests who molested them, but did nothing to stop the abuse.
The motion filed by McMurray follows on from a lawsuit filed in 2004 by three men who allege they were abused by priests in Kentucky starting as far back as 1928.  The Vatican tried to get that case dismissed, but a judge ruled in 2007 that it should go ahead and ordered "discovery" to begin -- when both sides request information and documents from the other side, using tools including questioning of witnesses, to try to "discover" pertinent facts.
The abuse started as far back at 1928!  It's inexcusable that not a single bishop has been tried in U.S. courts for their collusion with and harboring of pedophiles.  Let's hope that Hypocrite Benedict has his day in court.

Cuban Priest Ernesto Garcia Rubio Allowed to Sexually Abuse in Miami under the Protection of the Papal Nuncio for Thirty Years

Yet another Vatican cover-up of sexual abuse has been exposed.

This case involves a pedophile priest named Ernesto Garcia Rubio who sexually abused in Cuba before being transfered to Miami as part of a Vatican-ordered cover-up, where he conintued to abuse under the protection of the Papal Nuncio.

Documents sent to AFP by lawyers representing a man who claims he was sexually abused as a teen by Father Ernesto Garcia Rubio claim the Papal Nuncio - the Vatican ambassador to the US - asked the church in Miami to protect Father Garcia after he moved there from Cuba in 1968 after "serious difficulties of a moral nature".
"He was in ministry here in Miami for about 30 years and during that time we know of about a dozen victims that he abused," said Jessica Arbour, a lawyer for the unnamed victim and five others who are suing the archdiocese of Miami for alleged abuse between 1977 and 1987.
"There was definitely a concerted effort at all levels - from the Vatican to the archdiocese of Miami and even the Cuban diocese he was originally ordained for - to cover up for and protect this guy.  At the Vatican's request - they said, 'Please protect him' and that's what they did for 30 years."
And guess what happened when a bishop tried to have Garcia Rubio punished according to church procedures:
When a bishop in the 1990s began the process of defrocking Father Garcia, the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome "lost the paperwork", Ms Arbour said.
That's the same CDF that Pope Benedict (then-Ratzinger) was running in the 1990s, when Ben refused to defrock a serial pedophile in Wisconsin, who abused an estimated 200 deaf boys.

It's raining victims, sex tapes, pedophile-priests, and now Vatican-implicated cover-ups.  The Catholic church is full of hypocrites, who have no regard for their children or for the frail mystery of the god they preach.

Child of Lesbian Parents Condemns Catholic School for Expelling a Student of Same-Sex Parents

Here's a unique insider's perspective concerning the Catholic church's expelling a lesbian couple's child from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish School in Boulder, Colorado.

Sarah Kellerman, mother of three students enrolled at Sacred Heart, had two mommies.  She was raised by a lesbian couple and turned out all right (if you don't count the fact that she's raising her kids in an organization that didn't think her mothers had the right to be cilvilly married, protected under the law from discrimination, and to raise children).

The National Catholic Reporter interviewed Kellerman (not her real name, in order to protect her children from being expelled) and she called the Catholic church to task for its hypocrisy. She stated:
There are two souls who are baptized Catholics that nobody seems to really be standing up for in a real, concrete way and even though the two children are young, they’re still going to hear about this situation when they’re older and it’s going to be one in a long stream of lifetime rejections that they’re going to experience.
I would think that the Catholic church would want to have them in the fold, to “convert from within,” is one term that I heard. But they’re being turned away - even though they are baptized, legal Catholics. They are just as Catholic as my children, as any other baptized child in that school. I’m quite upset that the church has reneged on their baptismal promises. They promised, through baptism, to make available to these children all of the resources that the Catholic church has to offer.
Those children were received and welcomed into the church. They were presented to the church. The church clapped for them and said, “Welcome to our community.” They were given a white stole and a candle and blessings and prayers, but now they’re being told that they’re not good enough to be in a Catholic school and to have a Catholic education, and that, to me, is a sin.
You gotta love it when Catholics call their own church to task for violating its own precious teachings and theology.  I would also add the children who've been abandoned by the church to pedophile priests and the adult victim-survivors of abuse who have been stonewalled, bullied, and blamed for what was done unto them in the name of their god and avoiding scandal for holy dysfunctional Mother church.

The most tragic aspect of Kellerman's statements is that, after all her mothers went through to raise her well (as she says they did in the interview) and after all the church is putting families like her own through, she is still sending her own children to a Catholic school and indoctrinating them in the very system that is teaching kids to discriminate against homosexuals.  She is forming her children in a system of theological and psychological violence towards their own grandmothers.  What does that say about her love and respect for her parents?

At the end of the NCR interview, Kellerman stated:
It is one thing that the Catholic church is making this decree, saying gays and lesbians are not be full members of the church, but now the kids too. How many generations is it going to go? Is it going to be grandchildren and great grandchildren? But now they’re basically saying two generations—the parents and the kids can no longer be full members of the church, which I think is very wrong.
Welcome to the world of the Catholic church, Kellerman.  Welcome to the world of the Judeo-Christian god of the bible, where children are killed in order to atone for the sins of their parents and where a father tortures and murders his only son, punishing him to pay for the wrongs of other people.  Your god is a vindictive, child abusing god.  That is the god and the church you have chosen.

The best thing that could have happened to the child expelled for having lesbian parents was being cut free of the Gospel According to Shame, Violence, and Hate that the Catholic church preaches and teaches to its children.

Hypocrisy Poll: Carrie Prejean vs. Lauren Ashley vs. Sarah Palin

Fundamentalist Christian beauty hypocrisy queen and tea-bagger extraordinaire Carrie Prejean is at it again.  The masturbation-movie star and Christian Right's pinup girl for condemning same sex couple's equal marriage rights is opposed to so much more, but now, Prejean is the one being sued.

     TMZ reports:
Carrie Prejean isn't just opposed to gay marriage, she's also opposed to paying more than $64,000 to the "Christian-focused" PR firm who helped her out, this according to a new lawsuit.  The group -- A. Larry Ross Communications -- claims Prejean contacted them back in April, 2009 and logged "hundreds of hours" helping Prejean spread her "biblically correct" message.  But according to the lawsuit, filed earlier this month in Texas, Prejean's actions were the opposite of Christian -- because she never paid the $64,857 bill.
My guess is that Prejean thinks she's being "biblically correct" in not paying her bills.  Leviticus 25:36-37 says:
Do not exact interest from your countryman either in money or in kind, but out of fear of God let him live with you.  You are to lend him neither money at interest nor food at a profit.  [Also stated in Exodus, Deuteronomy, Nehemiah, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ezekiel.]
Prejean probably interprets this passage to mean that a good anit-gay Christian doesn't have to pay her bills.  That greedy PR firm just wants profit!  They should be opening their doors to let her live with them (a.k.a. represent her) for free.  That gluttonous (not that she would use a word that large), biblically correct PR firm is just another attempt of the liberal media and gay mafia to try and take her down.

     Prejean is a hypocrite!

The Holy Blog wants to know what you think.

Who is the bigger Hypocrisy Queen?  Carrie Prejean or Lauren Ashley?  And just for kicks let's throw former beauty queen Sarah Palin in there.

Vote in the left column of the Holy Blog.

    Carrie's greatest hit/gay bash:
Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And, you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.
     Ashely's greatest bash:
The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says, 'If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.' The Bible ispretty black and white.  I feel like God [sic] himself created mankind and he loves everyone, and he has the best for everyone. If he says that having sex with someone of your same gender is going to bring death upon you, that's a pretty stern warning, and he knows more than we do about life.

Here's what Palin, Prejean, Ashley's Christian-authored New Testament has to say about how women should dress:
Women should adorn themselves with proper conduct, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hairstyles and gold ornaments, or pearls, or expensive clothes. (1 Timothy 2:9)
Your adornment should not be an external one: braiding the hair, wearing gold jewelry, or dressing in fine clothes, but rather the hidden character of the heart, expressed in the imperishable beauty of a gentle and calm disposition, which is precious in the sight of God.  For this is also how the holy women who hoped in God once used to adorn themselves and were subordinate to their husbands. (1 Peter 3:2-5)
So much for the unification of church and pageant.
