Dutch Catholic Sexual Abuse Scandal Report: Nearly 2,000 Victims

An investigative panel in the Netherlands released a report this week showing that almost 2,000 of the country's four million Catholics have made complains of sexual or physical abuse against priests and bishops.

     The New York Times reports:
“The Roman Catholic Church has not faced a crisis like this since the French Revolution,” Peter Nissen, a professor of the history of religion at Radboud University in the Netherlands, said of the growing abuse scandal...
Asked in March on television about the hundreds of complaints already surfacing, one of the church’s most senior figures, Cardinal Adrianus Simonis, shocked the nation by replying not in Dutch but in German. “Wir haben es nicht gewusst” — We knew nothing — he said, using a phrase associated with Nazi excuses after World War II.
“A lot of people perceived it as an affirmation of the culture of covering up cases,” said Professor Nissen, adding that it meant to many, “ ‘We should have known’ or ‘We knew but we didn't want to know.’ ”
The Rev. Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said that he had no comment and that the matter was in the hands of Dutch bishops.
"In the hands of bishops," because that has worked so well in the past.

Last Known Pink Triangle Speaks about Being Placed in a Concentration Camp in Nazi Germany

One myth thrown out by some conservative Christian Americans is that Hitler and the Nazis were gay.  Untrue.  Homosexuals were persecuted by Hitler, marked with pink triangles, and sent to concentration camps.  This is a historical fact.

In the video below, Rudolph Brazda, who is possibly the last surviving Pink Triangle, speaks of his experience.

97 year-old Rudolf Brazda is probably the last surviving man to have been deported by the Nazis for being a homosexual. In a video interview for Yagg he remembers his years as a prisoner at the Buchenwald concentration camp. He had previously given his precise and moving testimony to Jean-Luc Schwab, of the French organization Les “Oublié(e)s” de la Mémoire (Forgotten from Memory), who turned it into a fascinating book: Itinéraire d’un Triangle rose (Itinerary of a Pink triangle).
The son of Tcheckoslovaquian immigrants in Germany, Rudolf Brazda was 20 when Hitler rose to power. He had lived his homosexuality freely and openly until the law penalizing homosexuality, the notorious “Paragraph 175″, was toughened by the Nazi regime. On August 8, 1942, after having gone to prison twice, he was sent to the concentration camp of Buchenwald, where he was given the number 7952, and a pink triangle.
Here is the video of Brazda telling his story:

Pope Benedict, Nazism, Atheism, & What He Should Have Said in the United Kingdom

Imagine the prophetic witness that could have been made were Pope Ben to have admitted his wrongs and said this instead:

"Yes, Hitler was a Catholic.  In him, we see the tragedy of how religion can be used as a weapon and justification for the most horrendous of crimes against humanity.  I witnessed this with my own eyes, when I, myself, was a member of the Nazi movement.

"There is blood on my hands.  I failed to stand up for what was right and just.  I saved myself rather than risking my own safety.  I was a coward.  The gravity of this sin, I carry to my grave.  But from my failure, I have learned this.

"What Hitler did, what the warrior popes did before him, what religious believers around the world, including Catholics, have been doing throughout history: killing in the names of their faiths, ideologies, and political affiliations is wrong.  The greater mysteries of the universe that some call God can never be used to justify the taking of another human life.

"As a former Nazi, I can never forget that Catholics cooperated in such sinful atrocities as the Holocaust.  As I greet the Queen of England, I can never forget that followers of the Church of England were killed in the name of Rome.   These historical realities inform my passion as I call on people of all faiths to stop killing in the name of God."

But, Pope Ben didn't preach the truth.  Instead, he lied and blamed atheists for the evils of the world.  In the process, he remained the self-preserving coward that he was when he cooperated with the extermination of six million Jews.

Richard Dawkins Refutes Pope's Claim that Catholic Hitler Was an Atheist

Last week during his first address in the United Kingdom, an address to the Queen at Edinburgh, Pope Benedict blamed the crimes of Hitler and the Nazi regime on atheism--this coming from a pope, who remained silent in the face of the Holocaust.  The pope again showed the world that he's a self-serving liar and a hypocrite.

Rather than standing up for his allegedly anti-Nazi Catholic faith and risking martyrdom, young Ben saved his own ass by joining Hitler Youth and eventually fought the Nazi army.  Now that's character befitting of the centuries-long tradition of warrior popes that sought to convert the world's non-Catholics by the sword.  This is the Tradition to which Hitler turned for justification of the Holocaust.

"The anti-Semitism of the new movement (Christian Social movement) was based on religious ideas instead of racial knowledge."  [Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, Vol. 1, Chapter 3]
"I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord's work."  [Adolph Hitler, Speech, Reichstag, 1936]
"And the founder of Christianity made no secret indeed of his estimation of the Jewish people. When He found it necessary, He drove those enemies of the human race out of the Temple of God."  [Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf, pp.174]
"I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so."  [Adolph Hitler, to Gen. Gerhard Engel, 1941]
In the video below, Richard Dawkins speaks to protesters of the pope in London.  Dawkins refutes Pope Benedict's lies and unmasks the twisted logic and projection of a guilty church.  (The full text of Dawkin's speech is available here.)

Anti-Gay Lutheran Pastor Tom Brock Is Secretly Gay and Attends Catholic Twelve Step Program to Control the Gay

For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.  --Attributed to Jesus of Nazareth, Luke 8:17
Another Christian leader, known for his anti-gay preaching and politics, has been outed.
Tom Brock, Senior Pastor of Hope Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis, is secretly a member of the Catholic Church's Courage Apostolate, which helps homosexuals to "move beyond the confines of the homosexual identity to a more complete one in Christ" by using the "Twelve Steps of Courage" to overcome their "addictive" sexual urges.

Does "complete" in Christ include persecuting honest gays and blaming them for the evils of the world?  It does in Brock's case.

John Townsend in Lavender Magazine writes:
He[Brock] is known for his denunciation of homosexuality and GLBT rights on hid dailty KKMS AM 980 radio program, The Pastor's Study.  His video series lambastes with outrage the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) for progressive attitudes toward women's reproductive rights, racial equality, ecological stewardship--worst of all in his view, openly gay or lesbian pastors having the right to minster if they are in a committed monogamous relationship with a member of the same sex.
When a tornado touched down near the ELCA’s national assembly last year, on the same day it voted to allow the ordination of openly gay clergy in committed relationships, Brock claimed it was a sign of God’s wrath.
The Lavender Magazine article reports another of Brock's gaytanic portents:
Brock, who finds omens in any number of things, noted that what he calls the ELCA "sex statement" passed by 66.6 percent--a reference to 666...The actual vote was 559 to 451.
     Let's see.  559 + 451 = 1010.  555/1010 = 55.3%.   Apparently, Brock needs twelve steps to better math skills.

At one of the meetings, Brock, dressed in a "tight fitting, short-sleeve shirt that accentuated biceps and triceps more ripped than the month before" reported having a "sexual breakdown" while attending a clergy meeting in Slovakia.  Lavender reports:
Brock admitted, "I fell into temptation.  I was weak.  That place has this really, really weird, demonic energy. I just got weak, and I had been so good for a long time...There's a lot of gypsies there...They're toothless, filthy; they smell, stink; and the gypsies are trained in how to pick your pocket."
To break the tension of  admitting his sexual sins in Slovakia, Brock spoke of a side trip to Hitler's Eagle's Nest retreat, after which a fellow Courage attendee made a comment about the Nazis loving Richard Wagner and intoned "Flight of the Valkyries," to which Brock rose his hand and conducted.  I guess in this particular Courage chapter, it's better to be a Nazi than gay.
Later on, Brock told of a Catholic priest...who recently officiated the funeral of a man who had lived with a longtime same-sex partner.  Brock questioned the rightness of this situation, pointing out if he were in the priest's shoes, he would have been reluctant to conduct the funeral.
Yes, because those, who live in the dark, should judge those living in the light.  Wait a minute. I don't think that's what Brock's Jesus had in mind with the whole lampstand parable.

AFA's Bryan Fischer Blames Hitler Crimes Against Humanity on Homosexuality

The American Family Association's Bryan Fischer recently made claims on his radio show that Hitler was gay and that he surrounded himself with masculine gays to carry out his evil plans.  Big surprise.  Another fundamentalist Christian blaming gays for the evils of the world.

The AFA was founded by Methodist Pastor Doland E. Wildmon thirty-two years ago and has a mission of bringing "traditional family values" to our country and making it "a culture based on Biblical truth."  One of the purposes listed on AFA's website is to work for "Media Integrity."

Here's the video of Fischer's rant.  How's that for media integrity?

    Transcript via Towleroad:
Said Fischer: "So Hitler himself was an active homosexual. And some people wonder, didn't the Germans, didn't the Nazis, persecute homosexuals? And it is true they did; they persecuted effeminate homosexuals. But Hitler recruited around him homosexuals to make up his Stormtroopers, they were his enforcers, they were his thugs. And Hitler discovered that he could not get straight soldiers to be savage and brutal and vicious enough to carry out his orders, but that homosexual solders basically had no limits and the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict on whomever Hitler sent them after. So he surrounded himself, virtually all of the Stormtroopers, the Brownshirts, were male homosexuals."

Glenn Beck's Nazi Tourette's Hypocrisy

Glenn Beck, who calls everyone Nazis, is angry.  No big surprise, right?  But get this, he's angry because of the historical comparisons being made between Arizona's new papers-please immigration law to the papers-please laws of Nazi Germany.

The Top Ten Hateful Things Blamed on Homosexuals by Christians

In light of the numerous claims of powerful Catholics, both in and out of the Vatican, blaming homosexuals for the systematic child rape and cover-up in the Catholic Church, compiled "The 7 Craziest Things Ever Blamed on Homosexuals" in the name of hate.
In light of the Catholic church blaming homosexuals for the child rape they are committing, here are the 7 most inane, ridiculous and idiotic things that have been blamed on homosexuals. People in a position of power, including various world leaders and fundamentalist Christians, have been blaming the minority with the least amount of power in the state for a whole slew of insane problems that they were either responsible for or couldn't explain for a long time now. People don't seem to blame homosexuals for something unless they have an agenda to push, and that agenda is usually that of hate.
     Ranker's seven include:
  1. Child Rape
  2. September 11, 2001
  3. Mass Murder
  4. Hurricane Katrina/Natural Phenomena
  5. The Economic Downturn in Post-World War I Germany
  6. Converting Children and Teens to be Gay
  7. AIDS
Click here for the full article.

I would add to these three to to the list:
  1. The Destruction of Heterosexual Marriage
  2. The Deaths of U.S. Soldiers Overseas
  3. The Mythical, Biblical Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
Can you think of other insane things that religious folk have blamed on gays?

Please list them in the comments below.

Pope Benedict, President Obama, Hitler & Malta's Pedobear

Why is it that when people paint a Hitler mustache on images of Pope Benedict, they're called vandals...

...but, when people put the Hitler mustache on President Obama, they're called patriots?

     The Catholic News Service reports:
A spray-painted message discovered April 13 on the birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI in southern Germany was quickly painted over, police said. Police spokesman Konrad Rutzinger said the message appeared to be connected to the abuse scandals within the Catholic Church. He declined to provide details of the graffiti's message.  Graffiti also was discovered on billboards promoting Pope Benedict's April 17-18 visit to the island nation of Malta, according to The Times of Malta.
The vandalism included what is known as "Pedobear," an image that has become a symbol in online communities to mock people showing a sexual interest in underage girls. Other vandals painted images of the pope with a Hitler mustache. The bear image also showed up on the choir stand next to the stage being built for the April 18 papal Mass, the newspaper reported.
     What is this Pedobear?

     Times of Malta explains:
Pedobear is one of the most popular memes on non-English image boards, and is gaining recognition across Europe. Although the meme is apparently unknown in Poland, it has been used as a symbol of paedophilia by Maltese graffiti vandals.
Pedobear is the new sign of the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church, an internet symbol used to mock those having sex with under age children.  Pedobear is a mocking tool used against people and institutions that sexual abuse children.  For more information see "A Beginner's Guide to Pedobear, the Internet's Favorite Pervert."

The Pedobear-Priest is a true sign for the Catholic Church of the new millennium.

Pope Benedict's Big Fat Nazi Movie Premiere

I can see Nazi Germany from my house!

What does Pope Benedict do to relax amid the turmoil of sexual abuse crisis in which he's implicated, a sexual abuse crisis in which his personal preacher equated the suffering of Jews by Nazis during the holocaust to the media's exposing of the pope's ties to covering up sexual abuse?

Pope Ben retreats to his summer residence, Castel Gandolfo, surrounds himself with his cardinals, and releases an official bulletin announcing his special screening of a new film about the controversial World War II Pope Pius XII.

As the Roman Catholic Church continued to battle a sexual abuse crisis, Pope Benedict XVI spent Friday evening watching a movie. And not just any movie: a biopic about wartime Pope Pius XII, one of the most contentious figures to haunt his five-year-old papacy.
In an official statement released by the Vatican on Saturday, Benedict praised the movie, “Under the Roman Sky,” as “useful and stimulating.” He said it could help younger generations understand a chapter of history they had not witnessed, adding that Pius “knew how to orient the church toward the horizon of the third millennium.”
The film about Pius was produced by Italy’s RAI state broadcaster and has not yet been released. The audience included cardinals, Italian television executives and journalists, Italian news media reported.
The Vatican marked the screening with an official bulletin. By contrast, remarks on Friday by the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, on the sexual abuse crisis, were read on Vatican Radio but not released in an official statement.

Pope's Preacher Compares Media's Coverage of the Vatican's Mishandling of Sexual Abuse to Holocaust

Good Friday didn't pass without the Vatican using its savior's death and its holiday-enlarged audience to strike back at the news media, who've been critical of Pope Benedict's handling of sexually abusive priests

Let me introduce you to the Rev. Raniero Cantalamessa, official preacher of the papal household since 1980, a Franciscan  in the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor, and the guy who leads the pope in meditative prayer.  He also just used Good Friday to compare the media's covering of the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church to the Nazi's extermination of the Jews in the Holocaust.  Seriously.

     The New York Times reports:
Speaking in St. Peter’s Basilica, the priest, the Rev. Raniero Cantalamessa, took note that Easter and Passover fell during the same week this year, and said he was led to think of the Jews.   “They know from experience what it means to be victims of collective violence, and also because of this they are quick to recognize the recurring symptoms,” said Father Cantalamessa, who serves under the title of preacher of the papal household. Then he quoted from what he said was a letter from a Jewish friend he did not identify.  “I am following the violent and concentric attacks against the church, the pope and all the faithful by the whole world,” he said the friend wrote. “The use of stereotypes, the passing from personal responsibility and guilt to a collective guilt, remind me of the more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism.”

Here are some responses to the Vatican preacher's comparison of the the attacks on sexually abusive clergy and the bishops who covered for them to the annihilation and extermination of 6 million Jews in the Nazi-led Holocaust.  (Via the Times.)
A leading advocate for sexual abuse victims in the United States, David Clohessy, called comparing criticism of the church to persecution of the Jews “breathtakingly callous and misguided.”  “Men who deliberately and consistently hide child sex crime are in no way victims,” he said. “And to conflate public scrutiny with horrific violence is about as wrong as wrong can be.”
Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni, the chief rabbi of Rome, who was host to Benedict at the Rome synagogue in January on a visit that helped calm waters after a year of tensions, laughed in seeming disbelief when asked about Father Cantalamessa’s remarks.  “With a minimum of irony, I will say that today is Good Friday, when they pray that the Lord illuminate our hearts so we recognize Jesus,” Rabbi Di Segni said, referring to a prayer in the traditional Catholic liturgy calling for the conversion of the Jews. “We also pray that the Lord illuminate theirs.
Abraham Foxman, the national director of the Anti-Defamation League in the United States, attributed the remarks to ignorance, not malice. “You would think that a senior priest in the church would have a better understanding of anti-Semitism than to make this hideous comparison,” he said.
What Triduum tirade will the Vatican provide on Holy Saturday?  Don't you just love the Catholic high holy days?

Nazi Ratzinger's Sieg Heil Photo is a Fake

In December, I posted about Pope Benedict XVI's Nazi history and how he was a member of Hitler Youth.  There is an unintended mistake in my post.

During my research the pope's brother Georg Ratzinger, who has landed himself in the middle of the clergy sexual and physical abuse scandal rocking Germany, I found a picture of the Ratzinger brothers celebrating Mass together (supposedly on their ordination day).  Here is the photo, via Getty Images.
Comedy/Drama: a Ratzinger Epiclesis
Georg is the smiling one.  The future Pope Ben the constipated one.

This is the picture that I found during my research in December.  This picture is being circulated around the internet as Pope Benedict doing the Sieg heil.
Do you see what I see?

The Sieg heil photo is a crop of the angry epiclesis photo.

This doesn't change the fact the Ratzinger was a member of Hitler Youth, that much of what he does as pope is harmful to people, and that he transfered a pedophile priest, who continued to abuse other boys, but it does clarify this photo, which is a fabrication.

Saint Nazi I

Remember back when German Pope Benedict XVI started off the new year with a bang by lifting the excommunication of Lefebvrite and holocaust-denying Bishop Richard Williamson and welcomed him back into the Roman Catholic fold?  Well, apparently that wasn't enough spitting in the face of the world's Jewish population, because over the weekend, Pope Ben presented a grand Hanukkah present: yet another bullet in the back of years of Jewish-Catholic dialogue.

On Saturday, Pope Ben moved two of his predecessor popes, John Paul II and Pius XII, closer to possible sainthood by signing a decree on the "heroic virtues" of his predecessors and calling for their worthy imitation.  Zenit reports:
"What pedagogical wisdom is manifested in such an itinerary," the Pope continued [in the decree]. "In a first step, the people of God are invited to look to these brothers and sisters who, after a first accurate discernment, are proposed as models of Christian life; then they are exhorted to develop a cult of veneration and invocation circumscribed by the ambit of the local Churches and the religious orders."
"Pedagogical wisdom"?  Seriously?  From a church that for centuries has harbored child rapists and since being confronted about this has defended not the children, not the victims, but it own pocketbooks?  We're supposed to take this church seriously on matters of pedagogy and morality?

"Heroic virtues"?  "Imitating" Pope Pius XII?  Pius XII remained silent in the face of the Nazi's and the holocaust.  He just plain didn't speak out.  He signed a Concordat between the Vatican and Nazi Germany, recognizing the Nazi government. The RCC can't deny that, but what they claim is that Pius did all sorts of secret behind-the-scenes work to save Jews, of course, the supposed proof of this is locked away in the Vatican's secret archives and we mere gentiles are to accept holy (dysfunctional) mother (fucking) church's word on these secret archives, as if two thousand years of bloody history have shown us that trusting the word of the RCC is wise.

Among those to criticise him [Pope Ben] was the World Jewish Congress, whose president, Ronald Lauder, said: "As long as the archives about the crucial period 1939 to 1945 remain closed, and until a consensus on his [Pius XII's] actions ‑ or inaction ‑ concerning the persecution of millions of Jews in the Holocaust is established, a beatification is inopportune and premature.
"While it is entirely a matter for the Catholic church to decide on whom religious honours are bestowed, there are strong concerns about Pius XII's political role during world war two which should not be ignored."
He called on the Vatican to immediately open the files on the controversial figure. "Given the importance of good relations between Catholics and the Jews, and following the difficult events of the past year, it would be appreciated if the Vatican showed more sensitivity on this matter," he added, referring to Benedict's rehabilitation of a Holocaust-denying cleric, Richard Williamson.
The incident sparked worldwide condemnation from prominent Jewish groups and individuals and placed an additional strain on interfaith relations, which were already under pressure after the pope issued an edict permitting a prayer that called for the conversion of Jews.
In France, the country's chief rabbi urged the Vatican to abandon its mission to beatify Pius. Gilles Bernheim said: "Given Pius XII's silence during and after the Shoah [Holocaust], I don't want to believe that Catholics see in Pius XII an example of morality for humankind."
I couldn't agree with Rabbi Bernheim more, but Pope Ben (who was himself a member of Hitler Youth) has made it very clear that the concerns of mere laity, gentiles, non-believing heathens, and especially Jews are of no interest to Himself.  Pope Ben described his reasoning in Saturday's decree noting:
The Church undertakes these processes because "in the itinerary of recognition of sanctity, there emerges a spiritual and pastoral wealth that involves the whole Christian community."
He [Pope Ben] defined sanctity as the "transfiguration of persons and human realities into the image of the risen Christ," and added that it "represents the ultimate purpose of the plan of divine salvation."
Ben's "ultimate purpose" is thus spelled out very clearly and is neither to appease nor to dialogue with persons of other belief systems, but is instead to transform them into the so-called "risen" Christ, to make them Catholic Christians, so they can be "saved."  The Catholic church's official teaching is that the true church of Christ subsists in the Roman Catholic church (Lumen Gentium, Vatican II), and while this remains the "official" teaching of the church, the mission of the RCC will be to convert the world.

If Pope Ben really believed that the church was going to last forever, then what's the rush?  Why push to canonize a controversial figure like Pius XII?  Why put at risk all the work of the past century that went into Jewish-Catholic dialogue?  Would it not be prudent, or dog-forbid pastoral, to wait another hundred or so years to canonize Pius?  This is definitely not the time.  But Ben's not interested in the pastoral, nor is he interested in what's good for inter-religious dialogue.

In our current era of inter-religious dialogue, we are supposed to believe that people of different faith traditions, or just even different factions within a tradition, can get along and live in peace, but this is a fallacy.  As long as the world's religions believe that they individually are the only way to god, enlightenment, salvation, goodness, or whatever you want to call it, then there will never truly be dialogue amongst the world's religions.  There will be mere tolerance, which at this point in religion's bloody history would be a huge improvement, but true dialogue is between people who stand upon even footing with one another.  This dialogue is not possible between religions who each claim sole authority and insight into the will of their gods.  This, in my opinion, is the idolatry of religion: idolatry of the "truth."

As for John Paul II becoming a saint and calling others to imitate his "virtue," well, that's debatable, too, as history will show that his attack upon the use of condoms to prevent HIV/AIDS to be responsible for the deaths of millions from the virus in the name of JPII's precious abstinence.  Of course, similar damages against humanity can be argued at the hands of fundamentalist Mother Teresa of Calcutta, but Catholics won't listen to those arguments.  They need their saints, and as Pope Ben encouraged on Saturday, their "cults."

Is it just me, or is there something very self-serving and even a bit sinister about a sitting pope being able to push his predecessors for sainthood?  Isn't that a bit like a politician also being a lobbyist while being on the payroll of the company for which he/she is lobbying?  This is just one more example of what I call the theological incest of the RCC.
